Festivals of Bangladesh Composition : Festivals refer to a day or period of the year when people stop working to celebrate a special event. Festivals are common to all societies and cultures. Most festivals of Bangladesh have the stamp of religion. Besides, there are some festivals in Bangladesh that are related to community, nationality and politics.

Religious festivals of Bangladesh :

Muslim festivals : The two main religious festivals of the Muslims of Bangladesh are Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha. Eid-ul-Fitr is observed after the fasting of the month of Ramadan. On Eid-ul-Azha people sacrifice animals for the satisfaction of Almighty. Like all other social festivals , Eids return every year. Observance of Muharram is another popular Muslim festival of Bangladesh.

Hindu festivals : The biggest religious festival of Hindu community in Bangladesh is Durgapuja. Usually on the sixth lunar day of the bright fortnight in the Bengali month of Aswin, the ceremonial awakening of goddess Durga takes place. Thereafter puja is performed for three days and then on the tenth day the immersion of the image of Durga is held. Lakshi puja, Saraswati puja, Kali puja,Manasha puja, Janmastami etc. are some other popular festivals of the Hindu community in Bangladesh.

Christian festivals : Christmas Day and Ester sun Day are the main Christian festivals that are ostentatiously observed in Bangladesh.

Buddhist festival : For more than one thousand years, the Buddhist community of this region has been celebrating Buddha Purnima or Baishakhi Purnima with great splendour . This festival is celebrated in the memory or the birth of Buddha, his adoption of asceticism and attainment of supreme enlightenment.

Other festivals of Bangladesh : The Martyrs’ Day, the Independence Day and the Victory Day are the national days of Bangladesh. Every year these days are observed with great festivities. Birth anniversaries of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam have also turned into common cultural festivals of our country. Bizu festival, held in Chaitra-the last month of Bengali year, is a significant festival of the Chakma community of Bangladesh. However, a festival common to all classes of people and celebrated nationally with much grandeur is the observance of the New year’s Day (Pahela Baishakh). Barsha Baran (on the first day of rainy season), Basanta Baran (on the first day of spring), Nabanna Utshob (Harvest festival) etc. are sonic other common festivals of Bangladesh.

বাংলাদেশের রচনার উত্সব: উত্সব বলতে বছরের একটি দিন বা সময়কাল বোঝায় যখন লোকেরা একটি বিশেষ অনুষ্ঠান উদযাপনের জন্য কাজ বন্ধ করে দেয়। উৎসব সব সমাজ ও সংস্কৃতির জন্য সাধারণ। বাংলাদেশের অধিকাংশ উৎসবে ধর্মের ছাপ রয়েছে। এছাড়া বাংলাদেশে এমন কিছু উৎসব রয়েছে যেগুলো সম্প্রদায়, জাতীয়তা ও রাজনীতির সাথে সম্পর্কিত।

বাংলাদেশের ধর্মীয় উৎসব:

মুসলমানদের উৎসব: বাংলাদেশের মুসলমানদের প্রধান দুটি ধর্মীয় উৎসব ঈদ-উল-ফিতর ও ঈদ-উল-আযহা। রমজান মাসের সিয়াম সাধনার পর পালিত হয় ঈদুল ফিতর। ঈদুল আজহায় মানুষ মহান আল্লাহর সন্তুষ্টির জন্য পশু কোরবানি করে। অন্যান্য সব সামাজিক উৎসবের মতোই প্রতি বছর ঈদ ফিরে আসে। মহরম পালন বাংলাদেশের আরেকটি জনপ্রিয় মুসলিম উৎসব।

হিন্দু উৎসব: বাংলাদেশে হিন্দু সম্প্রদায়ের সবচেয়ে বড় ধর্মীয় উৎসব দুর্গাপূজা। সাধারণত বাংলা মাসের আশ্বিন মাসের উজ্জ্বল পাক্ষিকের ষষ্ঠ চন্দ্র দিনে, দেবী দুর্গার আনুষ্ঠানিক জাগরণ ঘটে। এরপর তিন দিন পূজা হয় এবং তারপর দশমীর দিন দুর্গার প্রতিমা বিসর্জন হয়। লক্ষী পূজা, সরস্বতী পূজা, কালী পূজা, মনশা পূজা, জন্মাষ্টমী ইত্যাদি বাংলাদেশের হিন্দু সম্প্রদায়ের অন্যান্য জনপ্রিয় উৎসব।

খ্রিস্টান উত্সব: বড়দিন এবং এস্টার সান ডে হল প্রধান খ্রিস্টান উত্সব যা বাংলাদেশে আড়ম্বরপূর্ণভাবে পালন করা হয়।

বৌদ্ধ উৎসব: এক হাজার বছরেরও বেশি সময় ধরে এ অঞ্চলের বৌদ্ধ সম্প্রদায় ব্যাপক জাঁকজমকপূর্ণভাবে বুদ্ধ পূর্ণিমা বা বৈশাখী পূর্ণিমা উদযাপন করে আসছে। এই উত্সবটি বুদ্ধের স্মৃতি বা জন্ম, তাঁর তপস্যা গ্রহণ এবং সর্বোচ্চ জ্ঞান অর্জনের জন্য উদযাপিত হয়।

বাংলাদেশের অন্যান্য উৎসব: শহীদ দিবস, স্বাধীনতা দিবস এবং বিজয় দিবস বাংলাদেশের জাতীয় দিবস। প্রতি বছর এই দিনগুলি মহা উৎসবের সাথে পালন করা হয়। রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর ও কাজী নজরুল ইসলামের জন্মবার্ষিকীও আমাদের দেশের সাধারণ সাংস্কৃতিক উৎসবে পরিণত হয়েছে। বাংলা বছরের শেষ মাসে চৈত্রে অনুষ্ঠিত বিজু উৎসব বাংলাদেশের চাকমা সম্প্রদায়ের একটি উল্লেখযোগ্য উৎসব। যাইহোক, সকল শ্রেণীর মানুষের কাছে সাধারণ এবং জাতীয়ভাবে অনেক জাঁকজমকের সাথে উদযাপিত একটি উৎসব হল নববর্ষের দিন (পহেলা বৈশাখ) পালন। বর্ষা বরণ (বর্ষার প্রথম দিনে), বসন্ত বরণ (বসন্তের প্রথম দিনে), নবান্ন উৎসব (ফসল উৎসব) ইত্যাদি হল বাংলাদেশের অন্যান্য সাধারণ উৎসব।
