Kodachadri Trek

Introduction

Kodachadri is a popular hiking path in Karnataka and is situated in the Shimoga district. The Kodachadri walk, located in the middle of the Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary, provides hikers with an adventure, a charm, and an experience that will last a lifetime.

The Kodachadri Trek takes you through a charming hamlet environment with rice fields, deep woods, beautiful meadows, and a breathtaking waterfall.

The verdant fields and hills that surround the top are breathtaking.

Adi Shankara temple

You will also get the opportunity to see a temple that is said to have been erected thousands of years ago and is steeped in history. Imagine going to a location with legends dating back to the 7th century AD, apart from the mythology! This is where Adi Shankara, a great philosopher and theologian, visited and pondered at the summit.

On the western ghats walk in Karnataka, there aren't many tales and history to be found.

Anyone may complete this walk on their own since there are various approaches. It is a haven for first-timers, intermediate trekkers, and seasoned trekkers alike.

Information about the Trail

Three base communities provide access to the Kodachadri Trek. The journey may be started from either Nittur or Kattinahole, or even from Vallur.

If you are driving to the base, begin your walk from the Kattinahole side settlement. You may either join the route at Hidlumane Falls or drive all the way to Kodachadri Top via the jeep road (a less exciting option with a constant movement of jeeps on the mud trail)

The woodland segment of the trek from the Vallur side is rather straightforward. However, if you hike this walk alone, you will miss out on a key feature of the Hidlumane Falls.

What is the best way to go to Kodachadri Trek?

The Kodachadri journey begins in the Shimoga district, at the little town of Nittur. Nittur lies around 110 kilometers west of Shimoga.

You must travel via this hamlet of Nittur even if you want to start from other communities in Katinahole or Vallur.

Nittur is the location to go if you don't want to hike and instead want to rent a vehicle. The prices of these jeeps are shown below.

Taking Public Transportation to Kodachadri

If you're coming from Bangalore, the base village of Nittur is simple to find. From Bangalore (Majestic/Anand Rao Circle), there are direct buses to Nittur. These buses go from Shivamoga to Kollur.

Take a look at the specifics here. Many buses run between Bangalore and Kollur, and tickets may be purchased online via the KSRTC website.

Nittur may be reached in 8-9 hours if you travel overnight.

Tip:

If you don't want to hike, you may take a jeep from Nittur all the way to the PWD Guest House. The roads are dangerous, and only jeeps are permitted to travel them.

The jeep's total cost would be roughly Rs 3,000. If you have extra passengers, the total fee would be about Rs 350 per person, round trip. Depending on the season you go hiking, the fee might be decreased to Rs 2,500 or 2000 if you travel in a group.

Getting to Kodachadri on your own car

If you intend on driving yourself from Bangalore to Nittur or Kattinahole, you may use this link to assist you set up navigation on Google Maps. Read the material below for a more complete explanation.

From Bangalore, use the NH48 Bangalore-Mumbai route. Pass through Tumkur and continue on to Hiriyur. Take a left at Hiriyur and travel west on SH24, the State Highway. Shimoga is reached through this road.

Following Tarikere, you have the choice of traveling via Shimoga city or through the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary's border. The road via Shimoga is more well-paved and speedier. Going via Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is a better alternative if you want more vegetation and picturesque roads.

From here, your first objective would be to go to Nagara. Nittur is around a half-hour drive from Nagara. You may either start the walk at Kattinahole or Marakutaka, depending on your preference.

The Kodachadri Trek Has Some Difficult Sections

If you're walking from Nittur/Marakutuka to Vallur, the Kodachadri trip is quite strenuous. If you hike this path, your stamina will be put to the test. The walk is further made more difficult by the presence of Hidlumane Falls, which includes some slick portions.

If you take the Hidlumane Falls route from or to Nittur, the hike might be classified as easy-moderate.

If you follow the trip guide's advised path, the journey will be close to 19.5 kilometers one way.

The part from Hidlumane's final hit to the main track is a single length, making the walk quite challenging. If you are not attentive and take the proper precautions, the walk through the boulders and down the slick route may be dangerous. Make sure you have good hiking shoes and a trekking pole with you.

When the woodland area is blanketed in mist and fog, the length might be difficult to navigate. There's a good probability that trekkers may take a false turn and find up on a tough or unsuitable track. We strongly recommend that you obtain the GPX file.

Evacuation will take longer than on past hikes if there are any injuries or accidents. Another reason for the trek's moderate rating is because of this.
