Can artificial intelligence play a role in reducing traffic congestion?

In a developing country like Bangladesh, some of the problems that cause thousands of possibilities are a cause for concern. At present, traffic congestion is a cause of concern, which has brought public life to a standstill. As much as there is a continuous effort of modern communication system, the traffic congestion is increasing. It is as if an invisible force is dragging the country's economy down. When a manual method is not working in any way, the thinking of the experts is towards artificial intelligence.

Amount of traffic damage

Although the amount of traffic congestion can be measured by numbers, it is still possible to assess the extent of the damage in depth.

According to Prothom Alo, the annual loss due to traffic jams is equivalent to Tk 36,000 crore. The extent of the damage is visible, but the effects of the physical, mental, and health problems are long-lasting.

Reasons for not reducing traffic congestion in the current system
The traffic jam is constantly increasing, it is not possible to control it in any way. The current speed of vehicles in Dhaka city is 5 km per hour, which is less than the speed of walking on human feet. Thousands of working hours are being wasted every day.
No action is being taken to reduce traffic congestion, but there is no way to reduce traffic congestion. When a manual method doesn't work, what's wrong with thinking differently?
You will find many reasons for not reducing traffic congestion, sometimes it will seem to be the cause of illegal parking on both sides of the road, sometimes it will seem to be the main cause of comparatively private car traffic on the road. You can also blame sidewalking, non-compliance or non-observance of traffic laws as the cause of traffic jams.
Now let's come to the solution. If you think in a simple way, the thoughts of the solution will come in that way
                           1) Arrange for legal parking by removing illegal parking
                           2) Many will say to reduce the number of private cars by increasing the amount of public transport.
                          3) To make the general public interested in obeying the traffic laws.
                          4) To expand the road as required.
But if it is said that all these solutions will be more tidy and the chances of success will be much higher.
What is artificial intelligence?
It is certainly a branch of computer science. Some powerful computers are equipped with some programs when needed and are connected to some external sensors that are able to collect the appropriate information in the required space. Analyzing the information obtained can automatically make the right decision which is called artificial intelligence or (AI) for short.

How artificial intelligence will work:
Most of the countries in the world still control the traffic system through manual traffic lights. The traffic system in developing countries is further down, which is controlled by hand gesture traffic police.
No such manual system has any specific information on vehicles in any city. There is no specific information on which road is empty and which road is busier.
But through artificial intelligence there will be a current image of all the streets of a busy city, a road that is busy and a road that is free will have its exact image. When traffic will be allowed on a road, the decision on which road will be stopped will be made automatically.

How many specific steps will this system work?
In order to work with artificial intelligence, the entire system of the city has to be transformed. For example, the entire road in the city has to be covered by sensors / cameras. Some skilled IT specialists will be required and some skilled manpower will be required for maintenance.
Artificial intelligence will work in all those steps.
Data collection:
The information of all the vehicles will be taken to a server center through the sensor camera installed on the road and needless to say that all kinds of decisions will be taken and implemented from here. This information will include all the necessary information including the type of vehicle, owner, location of the vehicle. Not only vehicle information but also pedestrian information will be taken. Satellite assistance may be required to do this if necessary.

Data Analysis:
The main task here will be to thoroughly analyze the data collected throughout the city. The number of cars on any road in the city, what kind of cars are there, the amount of traffic jam on the road will be determined. And the alternative road to the road that has traffic jams will be found from the information obtained.
Decision making:
When all the images of the city are available from the information obtained, the direction of the vehicle will be automatically changed in the right direction. There are multiple roads from Farmgate to Motijheel, but it is difficult to coordinate. Artificial intelligence will make this difficult task easier. Suppose that if the traffic on the road from Farmgate to Matsabhaban through Matsabhaban area is very high, then this system will reduce the traffic on this road and increase the traffic through Magbazar area. This will reduce traffic congestion by making an adjustment in the movement of vehicles.

Success of artificial intelligence:
Efforts to reduce traffic congestion using artificial intelligence have already begun. Unimaginable success has also been achieved using this technology in several regions of the world.
The use of artificial intelligence to control the traffic system began experimentally in 2012 in a part of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. It was commissioned by a team of researchers from Carnegie Mellon University. Researchers have successfully demonstrated the use of artificial intelligence in traffic control. They named the technology they invented ‘Surtrac’.
According to their website, artificial intelligence-controlled traffic zones now take 25% less time to reach a destination than ever before, traffic signals are reduced by 40%, vehicles no longer have to read signals as often as before, and harmful vehicle emissions. The amount has decreased by 20%.
The future of traffic management
While driverless cars are no surprise now, the number of driverless cars will undoubtedly increase in the future. Basically at that time artificial intelligence will work perfectly. Because even if people don't listen, the machine will listen.
All other benefits that can be found:
With the help of artificial intelligence, when all the vehicle data is in a central data center, it is possible to do many things using this same data.
1) It is possible to reduce the crime tendency a lot.
2) In a moment, it will be possible to understand the location of any vehicle, which vehicle has violated the traffic law.
3) Car theft can be prevented a lot.

Predictions about artificial intelligence
Since the information of all the vehicles in a city will be connected to a central server so that a hacker can steal this data in any way or take it under his control then he can organize a big crime. Which will cause a big catastrophe.
When a private car is brought under trucking, many object to it, which can be an obstacle to the establishment of the whole system.
In many cases something contrary to the individual's personal wishes can happen.

We can accept some problems for the good of the public. We are all waiting to see a busy but traffic-free city. We will wait for the implementation of technology with the demand of an ongoing clean city by removing this traffic jam.

The first step in the SDLC is "Open-source" phase. During this phase software developers must apply the Open Source Release Community (OSCR) V3 specifications by https://mlsdev.com. This is done by submitting software implementations based on the V3 specification to an approved or preapproved open-source community. After the implementation, software testing will be performed to verify that the implementation meets the goals defined by the stakeholders. If it does not, then the testing team will make changes to the code and perform re-testing.
